Italian Food
One of the best parts about studying in Italy is the food! I could literally eat pasta every day and not get sick of it because there are so many different kinds of pasta. Based on the photos you should be able to tell that I enjoy eating pasta with pesto. It's delicious. Also, the gelato here is life changing. I see why people wait in line for gelaterias in the winter. I try to get a new flavor each time I go because... why not?
A huge advantage to living in a homestay is having a homecooked meal every night. My host mom is the best because she makes sure that I am trying unique Italian dishes every night. Eating dinner in Italy is pretty different from the States. They eat their dishes in a specific order instead of all together. There is the antipasto, the primo dish, the secondi, and then dessert. This means that they'll have appetizers (antipasto) first, then pasta or risotta (which is normally without meat), and after that the main dish which is usually meat or fish. For dessert, it is common for Italians to have fruit or some type of pastry or cake. My host family normally has both. Getting used to the way Italians eat was a big adjustment. The first couple of weeks I could barely finish my dinner, but now I know not to eat anything before dinner to work up my appetite.
